Android 9 Pie Features | What Makes Great

The next version of Google's Android is finally a name: "Pie" (Android 9). It's just coming out and from extended battery life to new gesture navigation, packed with new features.

The pie marks one of the greatest changes in the manner in which Android looks and feels in a couple of more years, with more beautiful interfaces, the gathering of new development movements and an accumulation of round edges on nearly everything. Gratefully, this is at any rate as quick as Android Oreo, in any event on Google's pixel cell phone.

Android 9 Pie Features | What Makes Great

Battery & Brightness

Battery saver: Battery saver is always running from its usual features like displaying its charging and charging it for a long time. Also, when you come to you, you have more control - so that you can move forward on a charge.

Background restrictions: Now, you'll see recommendations in settings to restrict some apps that use a lot of battery, so you can get more control over your battery.

Adaptive brightness: With adaptive brightness, your phone learns how you set the brightness of your screen in different light environments and automatically does it for you over time.

Adaptive Battery: This feature uses machine learning to predict what app you will be using in the next few hours and which you probably will not, so your phone only consumes battery power on the apps you care about.

Digital Wellbeing

App Dashboard: How often you use different apps, and how many notifications you get. Get a daily view of the time spent on your phone.

Wind Down: Set daily schedule for your phone to prepare for bed. Grayscale throws your screen into brown while not keeping the notifications quiet for sleep comfortably.

App Timer: App Timer lets you set a daily time limit for your app. When you reach the limit, the app stops for the rest of the day.

Do not disturb: Improve not only to disturb the silence but also to silence all visual barriers, not only information sounds. Calls will still come from starred contacts, so you do not have to worry about missing something important.

Enterprise

Multiple users on dedicated devices: Android 9 makes it easy for users to share the same device, good for shift workers or public kiosks.

Tasks tab in the launcher: Now, you can separate your work app from sight. Tap the Tasks tab to view the Workspace application in one place, and when you stop working, turn them off with a simple toggle.

System Usability Enhancements

Rotating: Get more control over your phone's display rotation with a simple button that confirms that when you want to change the rotation on your device - even if your orientation is locked.

A look at always-on-display: See things like calendar events and weather on your lock screen and always-on display.

Quick settings were redesigned: a more consistent user experience for quick settings with all toggles, as well as an updated visual design and additional informative subtext.

Volume control: The simple, more accessible volume control lets you control the media volume immediately, as well as the quick call toggle call and notification volume settings.

Screenshots: Now, you can easily take screenshots from the power menu and draw, annotate or crop them.

App Actions: App actions predict what you want to do next based on your context and display actions correctly on your phone, which save you time.

New system navigation: Redevelopment of Android's system navigation helps to make searching and transferring between apps easier. Swipe from anywhere to see a full-screen preview of recently used apps, swipe left and right to navigate between them easily and tap on one to jump.

Slice: The interactive snippet of your favorite apps can be brought to the different places like Google Search.

Overview selection: Long press to select text or image in overview mode and look for actions based on what you choose (for example, to route an address with Google Maps or to share for an image the option).

Accessibility

Accessibility menu: Normal actions like taking screenshots and navigating with one hand are now easy for motorized users in the new accessibility menu of Android 9.

Sound Amplifier: This new accessibility service makes it easy to understand conversations by dynamically adjusting more than 100 settings to boost audio in such situations as restaurants, bars or concerts.

Select Speak - OCR in camera view: With the selection to speak, you can select text on the screen and the content will be read at large. Now, Android 9 added OCR support for the S2S in the camera and pictures to make the text more accessible. Simply select the text when using the camera or in the picture, and the text will be highlighted and read aloud.

Media

Multiple Bluetooth Connections: With Android 9, you can connect to five Bluetooth devices and easily switch between these devices. Incoming phone calls will be sent to all connected Bluetooth devices which you can accept so that you never miss a call.

Sound delay reporting: Android 9 provides support for a headset with sound delay reporting, so the video on your device and the audio on your headphones can always remain in sync.

Bluetooth devices per volume memory: Android 9 will now remember the final volume set for each of your Bluetooth devices. When you are connected to your car or headphone, no more explosive music is very loud.

HDR: Android 9 High Dynamic Range (HDR) adds built-in support for VP9 Profile 2 so that you can watch HDR-enabled movies on YouTube and Google Play Movies. HDR improves the brightness and color range of the video to improve picture quality and experience.

HD audio: Better performance and support for HD audio that provides clear, fast, and sound quality.

HIF: To improve the compression of the pictures and reduce the amount of storage required Android 9 now supports HIF photos on the Android platform.

Notifications

Notification enhancements for messages: Now, messaging apps can provide 'smart replies' suggested in the notification so that you can respond in a single tap. In addition, if you navigate, any inline reply drafts will not be lost, and you will be able to see the pictures sent from your friends in the notification.

Manage notifications: You now have a quick way to turn off notifications from a series of apps, so you only get people who are useful to you. If you are swiping some notifications, you will also get a smart prompt if you want to receive them or not.

Privacy & Security

Android Backup: Android 9 enables encryption of Android backups with the more client-side secret (device PINs, patterns or passwords) for security.

Android Biometric Prompt: Android 9 includes many new security features, including a standard biometric authentication signal that provides a more consistent authentication experience in Android.

Android Protected Confirmation: On compatible hardware, applications can now use a secure hardware-controlled UI to obtain your confirmation for a secure transaction, such as making payments.

Privacy Promotion: Android 9 protects privacy in many new ways. Now, when the app is inactive or running in the background, then Android will restrict access to your phone's microphone, camera or other sensors. (If an app requires access to the sensor, it will show a consistent notification on your phone.) Android 9 also brings significant improvements, which protects all web communications and provides private web surfing.
